E-Gates of Taiwan's main airport temporarily closed to all foreign residents and visitors amid virus outbreak


Taoyuan International Airport's electronic gates or E-Gate service has been temporarily closed to foreign visitors of Taiwan, the National Immigration Agency (NIA) announced.


The temporarily closing of the gates to foreign visitors already effective that start Feb 7.

The National Immigration Agency (NIA) announced all foreign nationals arriving at Taiwan's airports will need to see an immigration officer for detailed checking and better screening of passengers.

The suspension of service also applies to Taiwan's foreign residents who hold Alien Residence Certificates (ARC).


Immigration officers will be investigating the foreign passenger's travel history. Any foreign citizen who has visited China, Hong Kong and Macau over the previous 14 days cannot enter Taiwan.

The new regulations of the country targeting foreign nationals still subject to change depends on the development of the virus outbreak.
