Taal volcano eruptions killed several animals and plants in the Taal island


Animals and plants on Taal island were killed after the volcano erupted according to Mark Timbal, National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council spokesperson.


Animal rights organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) said rescue teams will attempt to gain access to the volcano to rescue horses and other animals trapped there.

Exposure to ashfall can lead to serious respiratory illnesses such as bronchitis, emphysema, or asthma, animals are not exempted from grave diseases.

If the is at Permanent Danger Zone as announced by the agency, considering the time allotted in transporting the animals is crucial.


The Taal Lake island is home to tawilis, the only freshwater sardine in the world. Tawilis has been listed as “endangered” and believed that these plants are now dead after the eruption.
