Force quarantine for Filipinos from countries affected by COVID-19 urged by a health official

Vice chairman of the House Committee on Health and Cavite 4th district Rep Elpidio Barzaga Jr. proposed to local government units (LGUs) to strictly monitor Filipinos coming from countries affected by coronavirus to undergo forced quarntine.

“Kung sino ang mga kababayan natin na nanggaling sa mga bansa na may coronavirus ay dapat magforce quarantine in which case ang magmomonitor naman would be local government agencies at LGUs,” he said in a radio interview.

Barzaga, the chairman of the House Committee on Natural Resources cited the crucial role of the LGUs to help prevent the spread of the disease.

“(Halimbawa) kung galing ng China, Japan iinform ang LGUs para imonitor itong kababayan nyo na kadadating lang, we require him or her na mag-quarantine and you have to see to it na sinusunod nila yung 14-day quarantine period,” he added.

LGUs must closely coordinate with the Department of Health to report Filipinos who have just arrived from COVID-19 affected countries.

Philippines jumps from 3 to 24 cases of novel coronavirus where more than half listed are Filipinos. President Duterte already declared Public Health Emergency in the country.

  1. Why only Filipinos to be strict monitor and force quarantine for 14 days ? Is it better to monitor all passengers whose coming in the country wherever they came from.
