Application for national ID optional but highly encouraged, PSA clarifies

Although acquiring national ID is highly encouraged, the public would have the freedom to apply or not for having one according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) on Thursday (Octorber 1).

PSA Assistant Secretary Rosalinda Bautista in an interview on Dobol B sa News TV, application for the national ID is voluntary but the government highly encourage people to acquire one because it will be essential for all transactions in the future.

The national ID system will be implemented to establish a single national identification system in the country that will harmonize, integrate, and interconnect the countless and redundant government IDs.
