New coronavirus variant first found in UK now in PH, DOH confirms

 The Department of Health and the Philippine Genome Center just announced on Wednesday (January 13),  that the B.1.1.7 SARS-COV-2 variant first found in the United Kingdom is now in the Philippines.

According to the report, a Filipino who arrived in the country on January 7, 2021 from United Arab Emirate yielded a positive genome sequencing result.

He left Dubai in December 27, 2020 due to business matters and arrived in the country on January 7, 2021 via Emirates Flight No. EK 332.

His female partner accompanied him on his entire trip but she was tested negative for SARS-COV-2 upon arrival.

The DOH is now tracing all the passengers who were similarly aboard in Emirate flight no. EK 332.
