Famous Taiwanese actor Godfrey Gao dies due to heart attack; overwork and lack of sleep seen


Taiwanese actor Godfrey Gao died Wednesday (Nov 27) due to sudden cardiac arrest after he collapsed while shooting a Chinese reality show in eastern China’s Zhejiang province.


The Taiwanese model-actor suddenly fell and lost consciousness. The hospital pronounced him dead and the cause of death was sudden cardiac death.

Health experts seen the sudden cardiac death experienced by Godfrey was likely caused by overwork and staying up late, speculated by Fang Cheng-Chung, the chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine at National Taiwanese University Hospital.


Overwork and staying up late cause a lot of stress to the body, which can lead to an elevated amount of stress hormones which can cause high blood pressure, vasoconstriction and heart rhythm disturbances.

Gao first rose to fame as a model, becoming the first Asian man to model for Louis Vuitton, he appeared in Chinese sci-fi film “Shanghai Fortress,” which was acquired by Netflix. He has roles in Hollywood films such as 2013’s “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones,” and Toy Story 3.
