Police Senior Master Sergeant Jason Magno was killed when he threw himself over the grenade hurled by the suspect in a school at 11am Thursday (Nov 28).
According to reports, an unidentified man was caught with illegally cut logs in the area and brought to local office of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
The man pulled out a grenade inside the office of DENR due to he cannot explain the illegal logging activities. The DENR personnel immediately ran to a covered court of Initiao College, the suspect followed them and threw the grenade at them.
Local policemen responded and Magno sacrificed himself to protect civilians and other policemen from harm. The suspect was eventually shot dead by responding authorities.
All victims were rushed to the Misamis Oriental Provincial Hospital where police officer Magno died while undergoing treatment.
